About the Curator:

Lian-Ladia 1.jpg

Lian Ladia is a curator and organizer. She is a featured curator and researcher for the work of Bay Area Filipino-American artist Carlos Villa at the National Gallery of Singapore for its presentation at the the Singapore Biennale 2019. Together with the National University of Singapore, her collaborative curatorial platform Planting Rice was invited to lead a public program to activate Carlos Villa’s curriculum as artist/organizer and educator for his work, “Worlds In Collision”. She co-founded Planting Rice, a curatorial platform in Manila, Philippines that presents contemporary art discussions in the Philippines and Southeast Asia not available in mainstream publications. In 2018, her research on Villa’s project on “Rehistoricizing Abstract Expressionism” and “World’s in Collision” has led to a public program and work acquisition for an exhibition at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive.

She has curated exhibitions and organized public programs at the Jorge Vargas Museum (Manila), Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), de Appel (Amsterdam), BAMPFA (Berkeley), NTU CCA (Singapore), Lopez Memorial Museum and Library (Manila), BACC (Bangkok) and has presented talks on her research on “Minor Gestures” at San Art (Saigon), Substation (Singapore), the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, CA, among others.

Apart from her curatorial work, Lian Ladia has been actively working with public realm and public art projects through community engagement, community planning and mobilization projects for an immigrant cultural district in San Francisco and SF based organization, SOMCAN, focused on land use in the most tech-gentrified area in the San Francisco Bay Area.

ABOUT INCLINE GALLERY

Incline Gallery is an alternative art space that fosters relationships between community and artists.  We create opportunities for emerging as well as established artists to exhibit in a non-cube format that challenges and encourages experimentation in exhibition design.  Our role continues to expand by facilitating outside curators, international exchanges and partnerships within a community based organization.
