orasyon + sumpa

Exhibited at the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery, this installation of sequin-embroidered textiles features rage poetry and prayers (orasyon) that invoke ancestors and deities to heal and transform the patriarchy that persists in decolonial community spaces. Taking reference from Christianized animist spiritual practices and liberation theology utilized by revolutionaries in anting-anting during the Philippine revolution, the prayers and curses are embedded into soft, feminine forms of piña bordado and native weaving.
